Editor’s note: Looking for holiday decorating ideas? Let these fabulous designers show you the way. Based locally, you may have seen their work this fall at Designed to Dine, the annual Community Fund of Darien fundraiser at Wee Burn Country Club, or last spring at The 203 Project to benefit the Darien Community Association. Not only are they talented, these incredible artists give back to the community as well in a year ‘round show of holiday spirit.

“This year, I am bringing in vintage silvers, lots of flowing greenery, antique influences, soft lighting and coastal accents, like the handcrafted raw bar boat pictured here. Inspired by sparkles and warmth, I’m looking to create a festive atmosphere that’s sophisticated, layered and rooted in timeless coastal traditions.”

“We love adding a boxwood wreath on the backs of chairs to give everyday decor a little pop. Adorning chandeliers with festive bows that coordinate with decor is a fun, less traditional way to decorate for the holidays. It’s elegance that can withstand a month of small children running through the kitchen and extend to the more formal dining room as well!”

“I love to include pink in my holiday arrangements to add more interest to the traditional red and green. In this centerpiece, I added a touch of exotic with king protea along with more traditional flowers including winterberry and ranunculus. This year, swap out oranges for pomegranates in your garland for a different twist. Balance a centerpiece by adding low, tight arrangements of a single variety flower and be sure to add some height variation with tall candles and low votives …it’s all about the mix.”

“When decorating for the holidays, we like to set the tone from the moment you set eyes on the home. A simple (but functional) sled, wreath with pine cones, red berries and a red bow signal a taste of what’s to come. Once inside, a banister draped in boughs of fresh greens and bows. We kept the decor tasteful and traditional like the rest of the home.”

“We had just completed the design of this new construction home for this lovely client …and it was time to decorate for the holidays! They didn’t want any red to creep into the palette so the theme was the sparkle of silver and snow with the soft textures of fur and satin. We used various textures of white, greens and silver to make the whole house cozy and festive all at the same time.”

“I like to set a mood that feels familiar, warm and festive yet elegant—a mini wreath hung on a beautiful ribbon to draw the eye to a favorite antique glass pane cabinet and a holiday tablescape that combines traditional pieces and modern accents to add holiday spirit without distracting from a room’s existing charm.”
