Dear Readers and Residents of Darien,
This is a really GOOD issue, if we do say so ourselves. From “The Greater Good,” our Good Table feature about the Van Leeuwen’s latest installment of their outrageously delicious ice cream in Noroton Heights, to our “Good Stuff for Summer” spread (the range of incredible offerings available from our local merchants is always a good thing) to “GOBs of Good,” our Giving Back column about the senior men’s tennis group in town and the good they do for each other and others, we’ve got good covered!
Best of all is the story we had the privilege of writing about women’s sailing in Darien.
If you don’t know about women on the water in Darien, you don’t know Darien. We didn’t. But we do now and, as we settle into the dog days of summer, we hope you will enjoy discovering all that we found as much as we did. What a juggernaut of talent and inspiration!
While you’re at it, check out our listing of music offerings in the area in the pages ahead. …and if you need reason to prioritize this (or any) diversion, read local therapist Penelope Wilson’s column on the importance of fun. It’s this issue’s Mind Set feature. As she says, “Plenty of research demonstrates play’s ability to release critical endorphins, foster creativity—even stimulate the cerebral cortex for better brain health and memory—at every age.”
For even more summer fun, be sure to catch the Darien Land Trust’s annual Farm to Table celebration of our open spaces on August 26th (see the photo above). It’s dinner alfresco and a fabulous night under the stars in Waterbury Field across from Wee Burn Country Club—all to support the good work of this amazing nonprofit. Thank you to all our contributors to this issue including Linda Stephens (In Good Health), Marian Castell (House Tour) and Carolyn Eddie (Darien Cooks) and to the advertisers who make it possible for us to produce this magazine for Darien by Darien for you.
